Well, at least we don’t have to rent a room

Sadly, Ben’s team (in the semis) and Damon’s team (in the finals) lost, so nobody’s going to Regionals this year. It’s especially disappointing for Damon’s team, they’ve won the season and lost State Cups the last four years. Twice, now, to Inter (congrats to them!), this time it went to penalty kicks. Nine players into PKs, Inter took it.

I’ve heard that whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. If that’s true, Damon must be The Incredible Hulk by now

Two teams to the semis!

Monday, June 9th, 2003

Damon’s U15s beat FC Puma 3-0, advancing them to the semis, undefeated and un-scored-on in the round-robin.
Puma and Nor’easter are tied for second, their head-to-head game’s score isn’t posted yet, so we don’t know who gets the wildcard slot.

Ben’s U18s defeated Lusitano 3-1, taking the top berth in their round-robin division. Lusitano and Cape Cod united are tied for second, and their head-to-head game isn’t posted yet either. Weird!

More weirdness: Juventus beat both Cape Cod and Lusitano, and Cape Cod and Lusitano both beat Inter, but Juventus only tied Inter. I guess that’s why you play the games.

Weekend at UMass

Monday, June 2nd, 2003

Damon’s team had a good weekend at State Cups in two of their three round-robin games. On Saturday, they beat Nor’easter 2-0, and on Sunday they beat Tri-Valley Eagles 8-0. Since Puma had a goal scored against them vs Eagles, even though they won, we only have to tie them in our last round-robin game in two weeks to advance. Of course, they’d prefer to win, but a little cushion is nice.

Ben’s Juventus team still has to play Lusitano this week to find out if they advance to the semis.

Go Juve!

UPDATE: Juventus U18 beat Cape Cod 3-0! Next up: v. Lusitano, June 6

Ben’s Juventus U18 team squeaked into first place last week, tying Inter 2-2 and Fuller Hamlets 3-3 to end the season < a href="http://www.maplesoccer.org/Standings/user/agedivisionresults.cfm?AgeGroup=U18%20Boys&Division=1">undefeated (3 wins, 2 ties). Their last season game was also their first round-robin game for the State Cups. Their next game is this afternoon, vs Cape Cod. They need to win this one, and next week’s vs Lusitano in order to make it into the semifinals at UMass.

Damon’s Junventus U15 team finished the season in first, with an amazing 7-0 record. Their round-robin games start this weekend at UMass.

Ben’s Prom

Monday, May 19th, 2003

Ben’s senior prom was this weekend…actually, it was Halley’s junior prom, but Ben had just finished getting all his paperwork in to Clonlara so he’s done high school! Woo-hoo!

A few pictures of him heading out. More once we get some of him and Halley.

When Johnny Comes Flying Home…

Wednesday, March 19th, 2003

John Paul’s home for the week now that finals are over. Grades still aren’t posted.

He got back into the air again, at long last, flying for the first time in several months. Plus, he got to use his new headset.

He’s going back up tomorrow. If you’re around Worcester, look up and wave!

Footloose

Wednesday, March 19th, 2003

Well, it wasn’t the *best* tournament ever.

Damon’s team came home without getting out of the round robin of the Jefferson Cup in Virginia (results – pdf), and Damon himself came home with a little more…a broken ankle! A few minutes into the first half he was tackled while clearing the ball, he played for a while after that, and went back in for the second half, but then came out.

Monday he went to the doctor where they found out it was broken; he’s now in a leg boot, and HE-CAN-NOT-PLAY-SOCCER!!! “Well, what if I just kick a ball around with my other foot?” YOU-CAN-NOT-PLAY… “Well, juggling’s not…” YOU-CAN-NOT-PL.. “But”…

You get the idea.

Happy Birthday Gabe!

Sunday, March 9th, 2003

Gabe turned 13 today! Now he’s legal for PG-13 movies, and AOL screen names. So, for his birthday he’s now Trogdor944, and he watched Lord of the Rings. (That’s not to say he hasn’t caught a glimpse or two of PG-13 movies before now 😉
Well, that means that we now have four teenage boys in the family. Yikes!
