Red Sox Nation!

Thursday, October 28th, 2004

Woo-hoo! Go Sox!

I still can’t believe it. Man, 86 years. For some perspective, my grandfather (‘Poppy’ – not to be confused with ‘Papi’ – go Ortiz!) was 14 when the Sox last won the series, the age Gabe is now.

There was a big flu epidemic, and our troops were fighting overseas (then it was Europe in WWI), so some things stay the same.

There was no TV, but about 2/3 of the country had radios. No NFL, no NBA, (basketball was only 26 years old), movies were silent, Albert Einstein was 39, and Wyatt Earp was still alive. Women weren’t allowed to vote yet.

I remember cool summer nights in the late sixties and early seventies, when I would sleep out in a tent in the backyard, listening to the Red Sox on a transistor radio. Ned Martin would be calling the plays – the names I remembered – Yaz, Rico Petrocelli, Tony Conigliaro, Sparky Lyle. Now my kids will remember Johnny Damon, Pedro Martinez, David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez.

See you again in 2090!

Paper. Remember that stuff? You know, the stuff you write on when you can’t find the stylus to you Palm Pilot. The stuff printouts come on. Well, if you need graph paper, there’s a pretty good chance you can print some out from here.

If you need music paper, you can download it here, or if they don’t have exactly what you need, just design your own.

Would you like to live in DUH?

Check out Dilbert Ultimate House – I’d move there in a second! My favorite feature (besides the home theater) – the kids’ bathroom, watertight with a drain in the floor. You just hose it down.

Damon is 17 today, and you know what that means – R-rated movies. Ben got him The Matrix. We got him car keys. Not a car, just keys.

Jon “The Daily Show” Stewart on democracy

Friday, October 1st, 2004

It is important to remember there still exist many other forms of government in the world today, and that dozens of foreign countries still long for a democracy such as ours to be imposed on them.
